Indiana DUI Penalties

A DUI will result in numerous penalties. Your penalties will depend on the offense for which you are convicted. If you are driving while visibly impaired, with BAC of .08%, you could face a fine of up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail. Your driver’s license will be restricted for 180 days and you will also have to pay a driver responsibility fee of $500.

If you are operating while intoxicated or operating with cocaine or a Schedule I drug in your body; you will face multiple penalties. You will pay a fine of up to $500 and face a sentence of up to 60 days in jail. Your driver’s license will be suspended for 180 days and/or will have an ignition interlock device installed for 180 days. If this is a second or third offense, the penalties will be more severe with longer jail time and license suspension of up to one year.

A more serious form of operating while intoxicated, high blood alcohol content (0.15% or higher) comes with stiffer penalties. You could face up to one year in jail, a $5000 fine with possible community service hours.

In addition, your driver’s license could be suspended for 180 days to one year, with an ignition lock device placed for up to one year.
